Investigators in Cherokee County are trying to determine what led to the shooting death near Woodstock. The scene was discovered Sunday.

Woodstock Police said Carl Lewis approached an officer at the Woodstock First Baptist Church saying he shot his stepson at their home. Cherokee County deputies and firefighters arrived at the home, located in the 500 block of Mirramont near Bells Ferry, and opened a window to find a young man dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

Lewis was booked on murder and aggravated assault among other charges. He was taken to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

The name of the victim has not yet been released. Investigators said they are still processing the crime scene.
