An Alabama man accused in a 1997 murder case will have to wait to see if he will be granted bond.

Jerry Lee was in front of a Fulton County judge Tuesday. Prosecutors said Lee is responsible for the death of 28-year-old Lorrie Ann Smith. Smith’s parents discovered her in her bedroom on Stonewall Tell Road on Sunday, May 25, 1997. Police said she was shot several times in the back.

Police said there was no sign of sexual assault, forced entry, or robbery. They do know that Smith fought her killer and that a "significant amount" of the blood of a suspect was found in the home.

Fulton County officials and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they were able to link DNA evidence to Lee 21 years later.

Lee was arrested Friday, Oct.26 at an Alabama hotel and extradited back to Georgia. He has been in jail since.

The judge said it will take him a few days to rule on Lee’s bond request.
