Juvenile shot walking through parking lot overnight in west Atlanta, police say

A juvenile was injured in a shooting overnight in northwest Atlanta.

Atlanta police officers responded to the scene in the 3300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive NW near Westview Cemetery around 2:23 a.m. Jan. 3 and found the victim with a gunshot wound. The juvenile, who was alert and conscious, was transported to a hospital for treatment.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was walking from a store and cutting through a parking lot when he noticed an idle vehicle. He said the occupants of the vehicle began shooting at him.

Investigators searched the area but were unable to locate a crime scene. 

In Georgia, a juvenile is a person under the age of 17. Police have not revealed the victim's exact age. 

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to gather more details.
