Kathryn Johnston Memorial Park groundbreaking in English Ave. Neighborhood
ATLANTA - A planned park in Atlanta's English Avenue Community gets a new name in memory of an elderly woman who was shot by police.
Officials broke ground on the Kathryn Johnston Memorial Park Thursday.
Atlanta undercover police officers fatally shot Johnston back in 2006 during a drug raid.
The park, which will be on Proctor Street, is close to the home where Johnston died.
The name of the park was originally going to be Boone West Park.
The city council voted in support of the change Monday.
