Kidnapped baby girl found safe, father at large
ATLANTA - A two-month-old girl was returned safely to her home Monday morning after being taken by her non-custodial father, Atlanta police said.
The infant, Sommer Sheffield, was snatched from the arms of a 10-year-old after her father kicked in the door of her home on Hartford Avenue, according to authorities.
But Sheffield's mom says the whole incident was a big misunderstanding.
Lakisha Barnes spoke with FOX 5 to share her side of the story.
"He did not kidnap our baby," Barnes said. "He is her biological father. He's a good man he cares about me and her."
Barnes told FOX 5 she and Sommer's father, 24-year-old Travion Sheffield, got into an argument.
"Typical relationship problems," Barnes said. "He is not at all what they're making him out to be."
According to police, the incident happened around midnight and set off a police search in the area.
The search ended about four hours later when a relative of the father brought her back home.
Police said the baby was returned in good health.
Police said the search for Travion Sheffield continues.
