Collard greens recall
Baker Farms, which is located in Georgia, is recalling some of its bagged collard greens over possible Listeria contamination.
If you shop at Kroger, Baker Farms of Norman Park says you should check your collards. A recall has been voluntarily issued for Kroger 16 oz. bagged Collard Greens.
The company shared the announcement with the FDA on Oct. 20, 2023, stating there was a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
"Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," the company said. "Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."
The potentially affected batches were shipped to various Kroger retail locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. The recall also affects Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. The recalled bags have a UPC code of: 11110-18171 with a Best By date of 10-16-2023 and production code 110093-387.
To comply with the recall, customers can either dispose of their greens, or return them to their local Kroger for a full refund.
So far, there have not been any reports of illness related to the recall.
