BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The young woman shot during a robbery near her Brookhaven apartment is suing the apartment complex.

Thursday afternoon, Mallory heath and her attorneys announced the lawsuit against Mid-America Apartments which owns the Post Glen complex.

Heath said she was walking to her apartment when a man approached her, grabbed her purse, and shot her in the leg when she tried to fight back.

She and her lawyers said it could have been much worse and property managers should have done more to prevent the shooting.

Mid-America Apartments owns more than two dozen apartment communities around metro Atlanta.
