Man arrested after firing shots at Rockdale County deputy Tuesday night
ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. - A suspect was taken into custody after firing at a Rockdale County deputy and barricading himself inside a home on Locomotive Road late Tuesday night.
The incident began around 11 p.m. Jan. 7 when a deputy was dispatched to a call reporting an alarm and gunfire in the 1500 block of Locomotive Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, the deputy approached the house, and the suspect immediately opened fire. The deputy returned fire before the suspect retreated into the home and barricaded himself inside.
The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to the scene and successfully entered the residence, safely apprehending the suspect without further incident.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Lorenzo Banks. He has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, with additional charges pending as the investigation continues.
