Man charged in double shooting at DeKalb County gas station

Police in DeKalb County said they have charged one of the two people taken into custody Wednesday night in connection to a deadly double shooting at a gas station which left an innocent bystander dead and sent a second man to the hospital earlier that day.

DeKalb County Police said 17-year-old De’Arius Woods was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was one of the two people taken into custody at an apartment complex off Mountain Industrial Boulevard Wednesday evening.

Police said Woods is being charged for his part in a deadly shooting which happened earlier that day around 1:15 p.m. at the Quick Stop Food Mart in the 1100 block of North Hairston Road at Central Drive. Detectives said the man who was killed was an innocent bystander.

"We do know that there were individuals who was shooting at one another. One person is in the hospital and one is deceased," DeKalb County Police Public Information Officer Sheira Campbell confirmed.

Police have not yet released the victim's name, but several people in the community said he was kind, always wears a smile, and would not harm anyone.

A second man was rushed to an area hospital with moderate injuries. Police were trying to determine his role.
