Man fatally stabbed in early morning incident

Atlanta police are investigating a deadly stabbing and a shooting, which happened early Monday morning. Right now it's unclear if the two incidents are related.

Devastated family members returned to the scene of Monday's stabbing that claimed the life of 39-year-old Brandon Scott.

"Somebody told me he stopped at the store for a quick second, and when he came out of the store someone was in his vehicle, and the person that was in his vehicle stabbed him," Scott's sister Deonne Scott told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes.

Scott's sister said their older brother was on his way to work, when he saw police activity at the Texaco station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Brandon's truck was in the parking lot.

He made a frantic call to family members after coming upon the crime scene, as first responders were working on the wounded man.

"He pulled over into the store and he saw the police and the ambulance, getting him out of the truck and he was unresponsive," said Scott.

Medics rushed the father of two to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died.

Atlanta police said Scott was stabbed to death by an unidentified man during a fight.

A witness, who asked not to show his face on camera, described what happened.

"They were talking, after that fighting. While they were fighting, tussling, the other one he pulled out a gun and start stabbing him."

The suspect fled the scene. Police said a Good Samaritan who witnessed the stabbing followed him to a nearby apartment complex just down the road and shot the man when he reportedly threatened the witness with a knife.

Scott would have turned 40 this week

Instead of a birthday celebration, his family now planning a vigil in his honor.

"It's not fair, it's not fair for me to have to bury my brother at 39, 40 years old. Wednesday is his birthday," Scott lamented.

Medics transported the stabbing suspect to an area hospital with a gunshot wound. Police have not said whether the Good Samaritan will face charges in the shooting.
