Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a fast food restaurant in DeKalb County Monday morning. Collin Chandler, 37, was killed Monday morning after a fight with 27-year-old Demario Gilbert turned deadly, according to police.

The shooting happened at the Burger King located in the 4600 block of Memorial Drive around 9:45 a.m. According to the police report. Gilbert says he was with his girlfriend, 36-year-old Likeena Pye, at the restaurant when Chandler, Pye's ex-boyfriend, began approaching him.

Gilbert told police that he and Chandler began to fight, as Pye tried to step in and break up the altercation, according to police. Gilbert says that Chandler began choking him, so he pulled out a handgun from Pye's handbag, according to the police report.

Gilbert claims to have pulled the trigger once as he was being choked, and that Chandler let go and began to stumble towards the exit, according to authorities. Demario says that he sat down in a booth and waited for police to arrive, according to the report.

When officers arrived, they found Chandler with a gunshot wound to the chest and unresponsive, according to police. Pye also suffered a gunshot wound to the right hand and was screaming for help, according to authorities.

According to the police report, Gilbert was released after an investigation showed the incident appeared to be justified and an act of self-defense.

"It's scary to know something like this could happen at a place people go to eat," Brosly Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez lives in the community and told FOX 5 News she was out running errands when she stumbled on the scene.

"It's scary that it happened here," Gonzalez said. "We have kids and families. You just hear about this so often, daily almost. It's concerning."
