Man struck, killed on Interstate 285 identified

A bizarre accident tied up traffic on Interstate 285 for three hours early Monday.

It happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 285 near Camp Creek Parkway around 12:30 a.m. Monday.

The Georgia State Patrol said the driver of a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire struck the median wall, got out of his vehicle, jumped to the other side of the wall, and then darted into northbound traffic. He was struck by a 2003 Toyota Sequoia.

Trooper identified the driver as being Doderick A. Moore, 30, of Atlanta, who died at the scene.

Traffic backed up for miles as investigators reconstructed what happened. Some drivers pulled off to the side of the highway to sleep as crews worked to clear the accident scene.

All lanes reopened to traffic at 3 a.m.
