After the discovery of the bodies of two hikers missing for 16 years, an Atlanta man is planning to climb a mountain in the Himalayas to recover his brother's body frozen in ice.

"I never thought this day would come... All of a sudden it was 1999 again," said Dan Bridges, the brother of David Bridges.

Cameraman David Bridges and world-renowned climber Alex Lowe were killed by an avalanche in the fall of 1999, while hiking Shishapangma. The mountain lies far east of Mount Everest, is more than 26,000 thousand feet above sea level.

Lowe's family confirmed the discovery of the men's remains three weeks ago on the Alex Lowe Foundation website, and said  both men were frozen in ice.

"Theres no question. I have to go," Dan Bridges said.

Bridges is accumulating supplies, gear and funds to travel up the mountain with Lowe's family and a team of hikers. He is also training for the trek by wearing an altitude mask while doing rigorous exercise.

Having climbed Mt. Ranier and parts of Nepal, he has not made such a trek in 14 years.

"I'm doing this because he's my brother. Nobody is going to do this, except for me," he said.

Bridges will head to China starting June 11.

Bridges has set up an online fundraiser. Anyone who wants more information on donating funds and supplies click here.
