Marietta woman fends off home invader with quick thinking, strength
Home invasion thwarted by Marietta woman
A terrifying experience for a Marietta woman. When a man tried to force his way into her apartment, she put her body against the door to block him from entering.
MARIETTA, Ga. - It was a terrifying experience for a Marietta woman during an attempted home invasion.
Keekee Edwards described the experience of having to fight off an attack.
What they're saying:
Keekee Edwards has lived in the apartment complex on Franklin Gateway for more than 10 years. She says she never had any problems, until earlier this month. "I heard just my door. That's when I came and looked at my Ring camera," said Edwards.
It was 7:30 in the morning when Edwards heard someone rattle the door knob of her apartment. She looked at her Ring camera, but the stranger had one hand over the camera and his other hand over the peephole in the door. She yelled at him to leave, but she could hear he kept trying to push the door open. Edwards called 911 while bracing herself against the door. "I was going to hold it till I couldn't hold it no more. All I could think about was my life. I thought if he had gotten in, I probably would have been gone," said Edwards.
With all her strength she kept pushing back against the door. She says this went on for several minutes.
Then, Marietta police showed up. Video showed officers approaching the man and yanking him away from the door. Other officers show up and arrest him on the spot.
The very next day, Edwards says she went out and bought a gun. "This is what I had to go and get for protection. I keep it next to my bed in the lock box to make sure there's no issues next time," said Edwards.
Edwards can't thank the 911 operator and police enough for their quick response. She says one of the officers stayed with her and calmed her down after the frightening encounter with the stranger. Even after the arrest, she says it's hard to sleep. "Til this day, when I hear something, I'm jumping up," said Edwards.
