Still no sign of son's killer, Atlanta couple says

The parents of 28-year-old Eric Jones, Jr. say they still have no closure months after their son was murdered in Atlanta. The couple says they haven't been given many updates from police, and still don't know the suspect's name.

Loved ones of a man shot and killed at an apartment complex in Atlanta’s Oakland City neighborhood last October are renewing calls for justice.

Those calls come months after the deadly shooting turned into a SWAT situation that ended with a suspect on the run.

"I wouldn’t wish this on anybody," Beverly Jones told FOX 5.

Since October 5 of last year, every day and every conversation has been a difficult reminder for her and her husband that their son Eric Jr. is no longer with them.

"Family members from out of state calling…has anything happened yet? No. So, it’s like when you hear everything, it brings everything back up," she explained.

Atlanta police say the 28-year-old father of two was found shot to death that Saturday afternoon at his apartment near the 1200 block of Oakland Drive.

Within hours of receiving a tip that the suspected shooter had run back inside the apartment, APD SWAT officers and hostage negotiators were called to the scene.

The Jones, who’d come straight from church, were also there that day.

"My heart just dropped," the grieving mother recalled.

"They had no answers for me…and (were) very rude," her husband Eric Jones Sr. added.

By the time officers searched the apartment, there was no one inside.

"You have this murderer walking around the City of Atlanta wherever he is," Beverly Jones told FOX 5.

The Jones’s say they still don’t have answers. An incident report lists the suspect as a friend of their son and states investigators secured arrest warrants but so far no one is in custody. APD officials have not released the name of the shooter.

"They’re coming with a lot of empty promises…oh we got strong leads here, I’m gonna get back with you…and you hear nothing," Eric Jones Sr. said.

The family says they want to see that person behind bars facing charges for their son’s murder.

Atlanta police tell FOX 5 they are not able to share any more information about the suspect but say the investigation is active and ongoing. If you know anything about the shooting, give detectives a call
