Metro Atlanta shoppers hit the stores on Black Friday

Thousands of people are looking to rack up on deals on Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Many families shopped throughout the night at metro Atlanta stores. Some stores at the Mall of Georgia remained opened overnight with the entire mall opening at 6 a.m. Friday.

Black Friday is no longer viewed as a "sprint" in terms of shopping. It is now part of what has become a five-day marathon of deals. Many stores begin doorbuster sales on Thanksgiving that last through Cyber Monday. Although many shoppers plan to buy items online, others still look forward to going inside brick and mortar stores and enjoying the experience of picking out gifts.

Friends Katrina Parker and Jenn O'Brien shopped well into the night on Thanksgiving and ended up at the Mall of Georgia in Buford early Friday. The two told Fox 5's Marissa Mitchell, although they plan to do some online shopping, there's nothing like being in the stores on Black Friday. "You get to feel the material and see the deals and that's better than online," Parker said.
"I'm not tired. It's my favorite day of the year," O'Brien added.
