MLK Day 2016: Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
ATLANTA - In honor of MLK Day, commemorations are taking place throughout Georgia, and across the nation, to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior.
The civil rights icon had a major impact in Atlanta, which was his hometown, and for the 48th year, Dr. King's former church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, is holding a commemorative service. It's always a powerful event as people gather to remember not just the work the civil rights leader accomplished, but how much more still needs to be done. Dr. William Barber, a national NAACP board member and the president of the organization's North Carolina conference, will be the key note speaker.
Ebenezer Baptist Church's service is the culmination of a series of events centering around radical issues. New this year is a discussion on rights versus responsibility, which Dr. King's daughter, Bernice, talked about earlier this month with Good Day Atlanta's Gurvir Dhindsa.
In addition to the service, hundreds of people are also expected to show up at the tomb of Dr. King and his wife Coretta.

In addition to the services held at Ebenezer Baptist Church to honor Dr. King, several other events took place to remember his legacy. The annual Hosea Help MLK Day dinner at the Georgia World Congress Center offered a hot meal and lots more to Atlanta residents in need. Aside from food, people at the event could get haircuts, new clothes, or showers and even medical care.
Downtown there was also a march and rally held to honor Dr. King's memory and help keep his vision alive.
