Hundreds of Atlanta Public School students headed back to class Wednesday morning. Over the summer, one APS community got a major makeover.

Inside their renovated campus at MLK Middle School they will find new furniture and equipment for their classrooms.

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders now have a new, bright common area, featuring a mural of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"We want our kids in our community to understand this school is a diverse school," explained King Middle School Principal Paul Brown.

The MLK mural is one of many portraits and quotes throughout the updated campus.

"As students walk through the building, they are reminded of how great they are. All kinds of people are giving our kids messages as they walk through our school," Brown said.

Other improvements include a new cafeteria and new grounds for track, soccer, baseball and football.
