Atlanta Police are searching for several robbers who carjacked a mother and her young child at gunpoint.

The ordeal happened Wednesday afternoon in broad daylight outside their home off Amal Drive. Witnesses helplessly watched as the ambush occurred.

"One [robber] jumped into her car. The other ran back up and snatched the purse off of her arm," said one neighbor, who only wanted to be identified as Helena and wanted her face blurred for television. She said she and her son witnessed the ordeal as she pulled up near the mother in a parking lot.

Police said the mother was unloading her young daughter out of the car, when she looked up and saw a gun pointed at her face.

Officers said the robbers took off in her vehicle and also fled in a tan-colored Buick Lesabre or Ford Contour.

The stolen vehicle was spotted in Southwest Atlanta and crashed off of Cleveland Avenue. The driver was apprehended, and found to be a teenager.

Neighbors told FOX 5 the crime is unusual for the quiet Southwest Atlanta neighborhood.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers.
