Mother charged, accused of beating infant
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - A Douglas County woman faces several charges in connection with the abuse of her young child.
Daniel Callies says he is glad he paid attention to his intuition and set a phone to record the interactions between his seven-month-old grandchild and the child's mother. When he went back to watch the video, he says he was bothered to see the child being beaten and shaken.
“I didn't expect anything like this,” says Callies. “When I started seeing it I got terrified. I didn't have anger because the Lord put the spirit on me that I was feeling what that poor baby had been through and I was scared.”
Callies reported the video to Douglasville Police. Officers arrested and charged Kayla Ray, 20.
The September 13 incident report lists charges as aggravated assault, battery, and cruelty to children.
Calleis says the young victim is a twin. He told FOX 5 News the two, and a sibling who is a little more than a year older, are with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. Calleis adds that his son, the father of the children, was in the hospital at the time of the assault. Hopes his family's situation resonates with others.
“Anybody, anybody no matter what the situation is if it involves your kids your grandkids or just taking a trip up the road to the store, if you got a feeling about your stomach, trust it, trust it.”
Ray remains in the Douglas County Jail.
