Mother of abandoned child turns self in

ATLANTA - According to police, a family member said she dropped Lakeisha and Ethan off at the Decatur train station earlier in the day.   Monday evening, police said a witness saw the child alone on the steps of the jail and took him inside. 

Police immediately began searching for the mother, but could not find her. 

Ethan was taken to Children's Hospital of Atlanta Hughes Spalding.  He was with a case worker from the Department of Family and Child Services while he waited for other family members to pick him up. 

Police believe the boy's mother may have been trying to take advantage of the Safe Haven Law.
