Mother pleads guilty to kidnapping child from Cobb County, sentenced to prison

Andrea Latrice McCord, 36, has been sentenced to five years in prison without parole and 15 years on probation after pleading guilty to kidnapping a child under 14, according to Cobb County District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr.

The case dates back to April 2021, when McCord abducted her then-four-year-old daughter from the home of the child’s father, James Williams, despite not having custody rights. McCord fled with her boyfriend, Custodio Guerra, and evaded authorities for two years before being located in Mexico with her daughter.

Williams reported his daughter missing immediately after the abduction, prompting a collaborative investigation by the Smyrna Police Department, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and the U.S. Marshals Service.

"This sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime and its lasting impact on the victim and her family. The safety and well-being of children must always be our top priority, and we are grateful for the tireless efforts of all those involved in bringing justice to this case," said District Attorney Broady.

Deputy Chief District Attorney Lindsay Raynor prosecuted the case, while McCord represented herself in court.
