Police are investigating a double shooting inside a DeKalb County home.

Officers responded to 3156 Citrus Court Monday morning to find a mother and her young son shot multiple times.

"They have serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital and are currently in surgery," DeKalb County Police assistant chief of the Criminal Investigations Division Tony Catlin said.

Police told FOX 5 they believe the shooter and victims may have known one another.

"All we know is we are looking for a black male," Catlin said. "We do have a person of interest, but we aren't releasing that information at this time."

There were at least two other children in the home who were not injured – on being an infant only a few months old. They are currently in the care of DeKalb County police officers.

Assistant Chief Catlin said police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and not connected to another shooting that happened a few hours earlier at an apartment complex a few miles away.

"In that incident, we believe there was likely a shootout in the parking lot," Catlin said. "A bullet hit an 8-year-old boy. He has minor injuries."

The incident happened at the Aspen Woods community off Flat Shoals Road near South DeKalb Mall.

"We are still searching for the shooters in that case as well," Catlin said.

Anyone with any information on either shooting is asked to call the police.
