2 killed, 2 injured in crashes on I-85 SB near Georgia-Alabama state line

Two people were killed and two people were injuries in a series of crashes Monday morning on Interstate 85 southbound near exit 77 in Alabama, according to Troup County Sheriff's Office.

This is near the Georgia-Alabama state line.

According to the Lanett Police Department, 40-year-old Byungock Shim of Auburn, Alabama, was killed in the first crash.

The second crash, which involced two semi-tractor trailers, also resulted in the death of 34-year-old Jonathon Bennett Kelly of Wadesboro, North Carolina.

The crashes at Mile Marker 77 were part of a chain reaction from an earlier crash at Mile Marker 74-75 that resulted in injuries.

One person from that crash was taken by helicopter to a surronuding hospital and another person was transported by East Alabama Fire and EMS to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The crashes resulted in the interstate being closed in that area for several hours until the scenes could be cleared. The interstate has since reopened.
