9-year-old girl injured in southwest Atlanta shooting

A 9-year-old girl was injured in a southwest Atlanta shooting. 

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were called out shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday to the 1700 block of Myrtle Drive SW to find the girl suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her leg. 

She was alert, conscious, and breathing when she was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators say nearby officers were conducting a traffic stop when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the apartment complex. When the officers arrived, they spotted several people running away. 

Four people were immediately detained as persons of interest. 

Details about the shooter or shooters were not released. 

The name of the girl has not been released. 

The incident remains under investigation by the APD Aggravated Assault Unit.
