ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia's new attorney general has officially taken his position.

Gov. Nathan Deal on Tuesday swore in Chris Carr, who is the state's 54th attorney general. Deal appointed Carr last month to fill a vacancy created when former Attorney General Sam Olens was named president of Kennesaw State University.

Carr will serve the two remaining years in Olens' term and will be eligible to seek election to a full four-year term in 2018.

When he was appointed, Carr was the commissioner of Georgia's Department of Economic Development. He previously worked as Georgia U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson's chief of staff. He's also worked as an attorney for Georgia Pacific, at law firm Alston & Bird and as general counsel for the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.
