New historical marker dedicated to Citizens Trust Bank in Atlanta

A new historical marker has been dedicated to Citizens Trust Bank, recognizing its impact on Atlanta’s Black community and the Civil Rights Movement. The marker now stands outside the bank’s branch on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, honoring its legacy of financial empowerment.

Founded in 1921 on Auburn Avenue, Citizens Trust Bank was established to create economic opportunities for Black individuals and businesses who were systematically excluded from traditional banking services. Over the decades, the bank played a crucial role in financing the Civil Rights Movement, supporting leaders and activists who fought for racial equality.

The dedication of this marker highlights Citizens Trust Bank’s century-long commitment to financial inclusion and its lasting impact on Atlanta’s history.
