MARIETTA, Ga. - IKEA has announced it will open a second metro Atlanta store.
The new store will be built on the site of the former Marquis Place as the newest addition to the Franklin Gateway Corridor in Marietta. The plan calls for a 338,000-square-foot store, which will employ between 250 to 300 people.
"After 10 successful years in our Midtown location, we are excited to expand our presence with a new store in the Atlanta area,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. “This proposed Marietta store will bring the unique family-friendly shopping experience closer to customers in Cobb County and beyond.”
Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin calls this one of the largest and most important economic developments in the city's history.
IKEA said it hasn't determined an exact timeframe for construction to begin for the opening of the store.
