A judge has denied bond for a man accused of killing a jogger on New Year's Day.

Gwinnett County police said Dacula resident Karen Ann Ray, 56, was hit and killed at the intersection of Braselton Highway and South Pucketts Mill Road around 7:30 a.m. Investigators believe the marathon runner was jogging in a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash. Police believe Christian Arizabaleta, 32, hit Ray and then drove off.

Detectives said Arizabaleta hit a curb and two traffic islands while heading south on Georgia Highway 124 before striking Ray, then drove over the sidewalk and hit several trees, coming to a stop.

Arizabaleta is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree and driving under the influence. He appeared before a Gwinnett County judge Thursday morning.
