null - Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will not debate Vice President Kamala Harris again before the November presidential election.
Trump made the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social. In the post, he claims to have won the debate Tuesday night and said Harris only wants a "rematch" because she lost.
Flash polls and unscientific surveys overwhelmingly favored Harris in terms of who won Tuesday night’s debate. Polls from KTVU, FOX 5 DC, CNN, and Newsweek all had more votes for Harris when asked who won based on their performance. Harris’ campaign immediately called for a second debate after Tuesday night’s performance. Trump initially proposed multiple debates – on Sept. 4, Sept. 10 and Sept. 25 – before changing his mind again.
Harris declined a Sept. 4 debate and said she would only decide on future debates after she and Trump met Sept. 10. Trump did a Fox News town hall on Sept. 4 instead.
"KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD," Trump typed in all caps on Truth Social Thursday. "THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!"
The Harris-Trump debate happened just hours before the first early ballots were mailed Wednesday in Alabama. We’re now less than two months away from Election Day.
