Atlanta police investigate Deering Road shooting as homicide

Atlanta police and detectives are investigating a shooting that happened on Deering Road Sunday morning as a homicide. The officials said the suspect may have been driving a silver Nissan Maxima.

The search is on for a suspect who shot and killed a man in northwest Atlanta Sunday. A homicide investigation into the shooting has begun.

Police say the victim was shot multiple times on Deering Road in the parking lot of the Atlantic Loring Heights apartment complex at around 2:30 p.m. The suspect then drove off. Officers believe he may have been driving a silver Nissan Maxima.

Homicide detectives are investigating the scene. A motive has not been revealed at this point, but officials told the media that did believe it was a targeted attack and that the victim knew the suspect.

"We believe [the suspect is] an acquaintance," said Lt. Germain Dearlove, the Homicide Commander over the Atlanta Police Department. "We believe they knew each other, and it appears there was a dispute between our victim and suspect at that location."

Investigators say during the dispute, the shooter pulled out the gun and shot the victim who is thought to be in his mid or late-20s. He was struck in his lower body.

"The victim was transported with a gunshot wound to his body, unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries at Grady Hospital," the lieutenant said.

Into the evening, detectives combed the area for clues, and spoke with neighbors in hopes that someone saw something that could help them find the killer.

"We want to do our due diligence to make sure that we speak to everyone that's on scene," said Lt. Dearlove.

While investigators are not sure what the two were arguing over, they do know neither of them lived at the apartment complex where the shooting took place.

Now police are focused on finding that silver Nissan Maxima.

"We're going to identify this vehicle, and that's going to employ all our resources to identify the suspect," said Lt. Dearlove.
