Oconee County issues urgent alert to not use fireworks due to dry, windy weather
OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. - The Oconee County Emergency Management Agency has issued a warning not to use fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
The agency reports there have been multiple fires already, caused by the windy and dry conditions.
The area had been under a Wind Advisory all day, and the FOX 5 Storm Team says it will be breezy.
In a Facebook post, the agency wrote:
"Fireworks use tonight will win as much as the SEC has today. Don’t do it. It’s too windy and dry. Seriously. We have been to multiple instances and witnessed firsthand."
There is no word on how many fires the county has responded to as a result of the weather conditions.
