Officer shows off drum skills during noise-complaint response

OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City police officer who responded to a noise complaint ended up showing a man his drumming skills.
 
It happened Friday when officers responded to a noise complaint in South Oklahoma City, according to the department’s Facebook page.
 
When the officers arrived, they found a man had set up a drum kit on the side of the road and was playing. The department said someone had called complaining the music was too loud.
 
But one of the responding officers, Nate Ross, used to play the drums. Instead of telling the man to stop right away, Ross said he wanted to have some fun and started playing.
 
“I firmly believe that the success of our department, in part, is about our interactions with citizens,” he said. “I could have gone over there, talking down to them, telling them it was too loud and they needed to turn it down…but this was a lot more fun…it gave me a chance to interact with the people I serve.”
 
His sister-in-law captured video from inside the patrol vehicle when Ross played the drums. She was with him for a ride-along that day, according to the department.
 
In the video, Ross plays the drums while another officer watches and the man plays along with him on guitar.
 
The rookie officer added that he received hugs and handshakes after he was done with his jam session. The man he played with also turned down the music and left soon after.
