Jackson said workers at the scene used ventilation fans and a hazard monitoring device to keep the man safe until rescue crews arrived on the scene.

Two firefighters went down into the hole to help hoist the man out. He was alert, conscious and breathing when he was taken to an area hospital to be checked out.

The construction worker’s name and details on the extent of his injuries were not immediately available Friday afternoon.
