Ohio man searching for owner of lost Georgia Tech class ring

OHIO - Timothy Rall says he found a 1958 class ring from the Georgia Institute of Technology and he’s hoping to find the person it belongs to.

Rall says he enjoys finding old coins and other treasures during the more than 25 years he’s been metal detecting.

"It's my hobby," he said. "If I find something really good, I do my best to return it to the owner."

Rall says he was metal detecting at the old GE Park in Cincinnati when the device started beeping.

"I picked up the signal, expecting it to be a quarter…and it was this beautiful class ring from Georgia Tech," he recalled.

Rall says the ring was buried in some dirt.

“I can't make out the first letter but the second initial looks to be a letter A,” said Rall. "It’s undamaged…looks pretty good."

He said the owner would be approximately 81-year-old now, and, if necessary, the person's family members could accept the ring on their behalf.

Rall said he contacted Georgia Tech about the ring, but, he says, school officials haven't been very helpful.

"They told me they found a person... they said his first name was 'Charles,' but they wouldn't give me a last name, and the class years didn't match. I don't think they made much effort," he said.

Rall said he’d happily return the ring as long as the claimant provides proof that they did, in fact, attend Georgia Tech.
