Why a peach?

The obvious answer is that it is an homage to Georgia and its moniker as the Peach State, similar to why they named the Peach Bowl.

What is the peach made from?

The 8-foot-tall peach is made of fiberglass and foam and weighs 800 pounds.

How tall is the tower?

The peach is hauled up a 138-foot-tall decorative tower.

When did the Peach Drop start?

The first Peach Drop took place in 1989.

Was the Peach Drop always at Underground Atlanta?

No, in 2018, during the sale of Underground Atlanta to a private developer, the Peach Drop was moved to Woodruff Park with the peach descending the Flatiron Building.

Why was the Peach Drop canceled?

The Peach Drop was canceled in 2020 by then-Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms as the event was being "re-evaluated." It was then canceled for the following two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also canceled in 2024 so the city could focus on the 50th anniversary of hip-hop music.

How many people attend the Peach Drop?

Attendance varies from year to year, with weather playing a big factor in the crowd size. An average of 60,000 people typically attend, with some years spiking to 100,000.

Is the Peach Drop an annual event?
