Pedestrian killed while crossing Canton Road in Cobb County
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A man was killed while crossing Canton Road just north of the intersection with Jamerson Road last Friday evening.
The crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. According to the Cobb County Police Department, a black 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, driven by a 42-year-old man from Woodstock and occupied by two juveniles, was traveling northbound in the right lane when the collision occurred.
Police say the SUV struck an unidentified man as he was attempting to cross Canton Road from east to west outside of a marked crosswalk.
The man was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he later died. Police said the driver and the two juvenile occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were not injured.
The name of the driver of the SUV has not been released.
The Cobb County Police Department's Special Operations S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is investigating.
