Pickens County stunned by death of young football player
PICKENS COUNTY, Ga - Pickens County is mourning the loss of a young football player and friend.
The Georgia State Patrol said Shawn Mask, 15, was killed Friday evening when his dirt bike collided with a pickup truck. The crash happened outside of Mask's home on Thompson Lane, the GSP said.
Mask is the second Pickens County football player to die this year. Jordan Simonds,16, passed away in a crash in March.
A post on the Pickens County High School Football page notes:
"This team has gone through unimaginable things and we can only get through them together. I have coached a lot of teams and this one will always be the most special because of all the things that have happened and how we have responded. Anyone that wants to gather at the stadium at 7pm tonight is welcome. We will be there. Anyone in our community that needs anything, please let us know. We will work moving forward to honor our fallen teammates and be there for each other like a family."
A memorial service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. at Sosebee Funeral Home in Canton.
