Former President Jimmy Carter and his late wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, are being honored by having the post office in hometown, Plains, named after him. Senators Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock pushed for the name change in the U.S. Senate.

The bill designates the facility at 119 Main Street in Plains as the "Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office" to commemorate the Carters’ enduring contributions to Georgia and the nation.

"Renaming the post office in Plains, Georgia, in honor of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter is a tribute to their lifelong service," Sen. Ossoff said, "The Carters have left an indelible mark on our nation and the world. A post office named in their honor in Plains is a small but fitting tribute to their legacy."

Sen. Warnock echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the Carters’ lasting impact. "Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter led exemplary lives while serving Georgians and our nation and were fiercely committed to uplifting the lives of all Americans," he said. "Renaming the Plains post office after both of these Georgia icons is a small nod to their triumphant legacy in the Peach State."

The legislation’s House companion bill was introduced by the Georgia Congressional delegation, led by Rep. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02). The measure, having already passed the House, now awaits the president’s signature to become law.
