Police: 1 dead, 1 hurt in DeKalb County motel shooting

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police are investigating a double shooting in unincorporated Decatur that left one person dead and another injured.

It happened Thursday morning at the Oyo Hotel on Wesley Club Drive, which is off Wesley Chapel Road and Interstate 20. Officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m. 

Upon arrival, police discovered two contractors who had been shot in the parking lot. One of the victims was found dead at the scene. The second contractor was taken to the hospital in critical condition. 

"These guys [were] at work and this is crazy to me.  This is really, really crazy and scary in the same point," said Johnny Young who was staying at the motel and heard the gunshots.  

Police said the contractors had just arrived at the motel for work who two suspects opened fire on them. Investigators believe the shooting was targeted. 

"These suspects showed that they had no respect for life shooting these individuals the way they did.  So, we're looking to catch them as soon as possible and we ask the public if they can help us, if they know anything don't hesitate to call us," said DeKalb County Police Sgt. Jacques Spencer.  

The suspects left in an unknown vehicle. 

Officers are now working to learn what led up to the shooting.  Anyone with information is asked to contact DeKalb police or Crime Stoppers.
