Police: 1 dead in triple shooting in NW Atlanta

One person died and two were taken to the hospital following a triple shooting in northwest Atlanta Saturday evening, police said. 

Officers responded to the scene on Hemphill School Road after receiving a call about a shooting. When police arrived, they found three shooting victims. Initially, officers said two of them had died. They later said one victim was dead and two were taken to Grady Hospital. The injuries of the surviving victims are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said the call came in shortly before 7:30 p.m. Detectives responded to the scene shortly after that. Investigators canvassed a wide area searching for evidence. Police said they recovered evidence from an apartment complex, a house and from an open area nearby.

Hours after the shooting, officers said they were not searching for a suspect.
