Police: 1 killed, 4 injured in shootout at Atlanta motorcycle club
ATLANTA - Atlanta Police are investigating a shooting at a motorcycle club early Sunday that left one man dead and four other people injured. The shooting happened at the Strikers Motorcycle Club on Moreland Avenue. The man killed was identified as Fernando Wingfield, 44.
Wingfield's family spoke with FOX 5 hours after the shooting. Uganda Fuller, Wingfield's cousin, said people told her the shootout stemmed from an argument. "I just know there was a confrontation. But you get all kinds of stories," Fuller said. "We will never know the truth. Nobody will know the truth but him, whoever was there and God. That's it." Fuller said Wingfield loved biking and frequented the club often.
Anthony Sheppard, a biker at Strikers, said he had fond memories of Wingfield. He also said hundreds of people gathered at the hangout that night to celebrate its 30th anniversary. "Things happen," Sheppard said. "We had been out all day long celebrating our anniversary. And it just jumped off."
Fuller said this isn't the first act of violence to strike close to her family. Wingfield's son died after a shooting a few years ago.
Atlanta Police said four other people were hurt in the gunfire. They told FOX 5 a man underwent surgery for multiple gunshot wounds and two women were in stable condition following treatment. The fifth victim's condition is unknown.
There was another deadly shooting in a parking lot near Strikers Motorcycle Club last July.
