Police: 3 shot, 2 killed in gas station shooting
ATLANTA - Investigators spent much of early Thursday morning combing over a crime scene just off the Downtown Connector in southwest Atlanta where police said a shootout happened.
Atlanta Police said they received a 911 call just before 11 p.m. reporting multiple people shot near Pryor Road SW & University Avenue SW. Officers said they arrived to find three people shot, two who died at the scene.
The third shooting victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
Investigators believe the victims and the shooters all knew each other.
“At this point, we believe that people in two different vehicles met up here at the gas station, so that they knew each other. There were some sort of verbal exchange prior to gunshots erupting and we don’t exactly know what the nature of that conversation was or that altercation was,” said Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Andrea Webster. “However, we do have witnesses that investigators are currently interviewing to see what they can provide to us.”
Officers blocked off Pryor Road in front of the Chevron station while investigators documented the deadly scene, trying to piece together what exactly happened.
“We believe there probably was an exchange of gunfire based on the three people who were shot. It appears that one person, the surviving person, was in one vehicle and the two deceased people were in the other vehicle,” Lt. Webster said.
Police did not release the names of those involved, only identifying them adults. Lt. Webster identified the deceased only as a man and a woman.
“At this point, we believe we have all the involved parties in our custody so at this point there’s no reason to believe that anyone is outstanding,” said Lt. Webster.
