Jesse L. Bodie was taken into custody Tuesday at the Kroger on Rockbridge Road in unincorporated Stone Mountain.
"Thank you so much you brought some peace to my family and we appreciate it very much," Inna Cubare, the victim’s sister said Tuesday. "We could not live in fear. Not of this man."
Cubare hoped the anonymous tipster who alerted police after spotting Bodie around 9 a.m. Tuesday would hear her thanks directed to them.
Authorities responded to the 3800 block of Crescent Walk Lane around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Police said a family member found 33-year-old Vera Tulbure, who had been stabbed multiple times. She was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center-Lawrenceville, where she later died.
Police said Bodie and Tulbure had a history of domestic disputes and had been dating for a little more than a year. Tulbure's family said she had a temporary restraining order against Bodie.
"He continued to terrorize her and isolate her until the point when she could not take it anymore and she tried to escape," said Cubare.
Cubare said Bodie had grown increasingly violent during the relationship. The two had separated and Tulbure was reportedly trying to get away from Bodie when she was killed.
"She ran away and went to a place he did not know about and he is a coward and hid in the house and when she came back to pick up some things he was waiting for her," said Cubare.
Police reports and 911 records detail the couple's troubles relationship. Just last month, Tulbure called police to report Bodie was harassing her and had showed up at the home with a gun terrorizing her, her mother and children.
Her family blasts news reports suggesting Tulbure wanted anything to do with her accused killer.
"It was not a case how people were saying it was mutual dispute and what not. She was a victim in this case and she was trying to run away from him and she was trying to fight this and she's been reporting it," said Cubare.
Bodie was taken into custody without incident on warrants for murder and aggravated assault.
