An Atlanta police officer is recovering Thursday morning after an accidental shooting late Wednesday night.

It happened shortly after 9 p.m. at the APD motors precinct next to the Atlanta Police Academy located at 180 South Side Industrial.

Investigators initially believe a motors officer, who was changing clothes, had his firearm discharge, striking a second officer nearby. The injured officer was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the ride side. Police said he's expected to survive.

The name of the officer has not yet been released, but Atlanta Police did identify him as a 10-year veteran of the force.

No word on if any disciplinary actions will be taken against either officer.
