Police confirm a body found floating in a river in Gwinnett County matches the description of a missing pharmacy intern.

Multiple agencies responded to Lake Carlton after receiving reports of someone floating in the water late Wednesday night. Responding firefighters used a boat to approach the body and confirmed it was a deceased male.

Police said the body appears to fit the description of Alvin Ahmed, who was last seen Monday night. The area where the body was found isn't far from where Ahmed worked.

Surveillance video released by authorities shows Ahmed buying groceries before he left around 9:15 p.m. Monday. The video shows him putting groceries in his car, and that's the last time he was seen. Tuesday, his car was found unlocked and abandoned in the grocery store parking lot off Atlanta Highway with the groceries still inside.

Authorities are focussing their investigation on Lake Carlton Road about a block away from Bob White Lane SW. The Publix where Ahmed worked is about a mile away.

A Thursday.afternoon autopsy did not reveal the identity.  Police say more tests are needed. The medical examiner’s office will release the cause and manner of a death once it is determined.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 770-513-5300. A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.
