The lockdown at the Community College of Philadelphia was lifted on Tuesday afternoon after police took a 17-year-old suspect into custody.

Commissioner Ramsey said that the suspect was found at the College of Business and Industry located at 18th and Callowhill in a classroom.

Students at Community College of Philadelphia unleashed a wide range of emotions after being on lockdown for about two hours Tuesday morning.

Students and faculty told to shelter in place while SWAT members went room-to-room looking for the suspect. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says this was personal between the gunman and a student.

According to Ramsey, the confrontation started outside the Bonnell building and when the student threatened to call security, the suspect ran into the building across the street.

At about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, police announced a 17-year old had been taken into custody in a classroom at the College of Business and Industry at 18th and Callowhill. Students were immediately dismissed and classes were canceled for the rest of the day.

Many breathed a sigh of relief that this ended peacefully. Investigators are still searching the school for the gun They believe the teen ditched it when he made a run for it.

The campus is closed for reminder of the day and  will resume normal operations on Wednesday.

Police say 17-year-old suspect does not appear to have a criminal record. He hasn't been charged with a crime at this hour.
