Police: Father of 4 set up, shot and killed
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - An overnight killing at a DeKalb County motel may have been a set-up.
The shooting happened early Wednesday morning in room 118 of the America's Best Value Inn on Candler Road, at the I-20 interchange. pulled offDeKalb Police say Latonian Burch was shot 5 or 6 times in the chest and stomach. He died at the scene. Mr. Burch's girlfriend was in the room when the shooting took place. Detectives are talking with her, hoping she can help lead them to the shooters.
Police also say that both the America's Best and the next door Motel 6 have surveillance video, which they plan on reviewing.
Family members tell FOX 5 that investigators told them that a homeless woman knocked on the door. Mr. Burch answered and gunman burst in and first started fighting with Mr. Burch. That's when police say the gunman opened fire.
Kenny Jenkins in the victim's uncle. Jenkins calls his nephew a good man who minded his own business. They say he was generous and always helped others, including the woman police say set him up. According to Jenkins, the victim was 39-years-old and leaves behind 4 children. No arrests have been made.
