Police: Gwinnett County gunman surrenders after SWAT standoff
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The man who Gwinnett County Police said barricaded himself inside a home with his two young boys has been charged.
Rashan Ellis was booked into the Gwinnett County Adult Detention Center and charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children, and false imprisonment.
Police said just after midnight they received a call about a domestic dispute at a home in the 3100 block of Glenloch Place. When officers arrived, they found a woman, boy, and girl outside of the home. But, as officers approached, someone slammed the front door. Police said the woman's husband stayed inside with two of the couple's young boys.
For about an hour, officers tried to talk the gunman out of the home. Police then called in the SWAT team.
SWAT negotiators worked through the early morning hours to get the man to surrender. He finally did just after 4 a.m.
Police told FOX 5 News the man never made any threats against the children still inside.
The boys were not injured and were returned to their mother.
Some of the nearby residents of the townhome community were evacuated for a time during the standoff.
