Police: Headstones came from old cemetery
ATLANTA - Atlanta Police said they have gotten to the bottom of the mystery of how several headstones, typically found a cemetery, ended up in a woodlot in the Adamsville neighborhood.
FOX 5 News first reported last Friday the headstones, some which showed damage were stacked in a partially cleared wooded lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, typical a hangout stop for the homeless, police said. The stones were found in the area off Bolton Road in the Adamsville community on Aug. 1, when someone discovered them among the tires and trash and notified police.
It turns out the wooded lot was once an old cemetery. In fact, the city planning department said M.D. Walker Funeral Home has several pending applications with the city from a funeral home to build on the property.
The funeral home said it will restore the damaged headstones when they complete the project.
